Informal meeting at Asian Culture Center to discuss campus assault incident

We invite you to an informal meeting this Wednesday, November 3, at 7 p.m. at the Edmondson Formal Lounge at the Collins Living Learning Center in regards to the assault against eight Asian students on campus.

According to a police report, students were walking near Forest Quad when they were assaulted early Sunday morning (October 31). Before the attack, they were subjected to racist slurs. According to police, four of the students were assaulted or robbed. One has reportedly been admitted to Bloomington Hospital for facial injuries and released. In addition, the attackers stole an iPad, an iPod, two sets of headphones, and a cell phone. (Source: Chicago Tribune)

This meeting will discuss the details of the incident, and we invite student leaders, staff, and faculty to attend and discuss the next steps to take in addressing this incident. The Asian American Association (AAA) will make a short presentation on the need to be informed of the root causes of violence against Asian Americans and other people of color. Most importantly, AAA will talk about the need for solidarity among various groups and conversations during these tragic events.

Lastly, the IU Bloomington Racial Incidents Team will be present to talk about its goals and provide students with advice on how to deal with racially motivated incidents.

We hope to see you there.
