"Make the Call" interactive program to discuss Indiana Lifeline Law Oct. 1
Thursday, September 26, 2013
"Make the Call" day aims to educate students about the Indiana Lifeline Law and the protection it offers them. The interactive lecture will arm students with knowledge so that they can be responsible and make informed decisions to protect themselves and others.
State Senator Jim Merritt, author of the Indiana Lifeline Law, and Attorney General Greg Zoeller will be there to discuss the law. Also attending will be Norm and Dawn Finbloom, who lost their son to alcohol poisoning when his friends did not know they could call for help without facing legal consequences. The Finblooms will present a real life example to urge students to take care of one another.
There will be a question-and-answer session after the lecture, as well as a reception to offer students a chance to reflect on and discuss the information covered in the lecture.
The program is scheduled for Tuesday, October 1, 2013, from 7-10pm in the Indiana Memorial Union Alumni Hall.
The event is a co-sponsored by Union Board, IUSA, and Culture of Care.
State Senator Merritt co-authored the law in 2012 to provide immunity for some alcohol-related offenses, subject to certain conditions, to Hoosiers who request medical assistance for someone in need. Information about the law can be found at the Indiana Lifeline Law website.
