SACNAS presentation and funding opportunities for students

Spring deadline is Mar. 29-Apr. 26

Attending the 2012 SACNAS (Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science) National Conference in Seattle, Washington, from Oct. 11-14 is an excellent way for students to be exposed to incredible resources and the validating and inspiring environment of SACNAS where they have the unique opportunity to engage with science, culture, and community.

Abstracts
Undergraduate and graduate students have the opportunity to present their research to a national audience of peers and professionals while practicing their presentation skills in a supportive and nurturing environment.

For more information visit Student and Postdoc Research Presentations.

Travel Scholarships
SACNAS offers travel scholarship awards for students to attend the national conference. The award includes roundtrip airfare to/from Seattle, Washington, and lodging through the conference dates.

For further details visit Travel Scholarships.

Submission Process
This year it is easier than ever for students to submit an abstract and/or apply for a travel scholarship. Applicants simply need the following to access the submission links:

  • Create or update their SACNAS Profile
  • Have current SACNAS membership valid through the conference dates (Oct. 14, 2012)

National Conference Registration
Applicants are no longer required to register for the conference before applying. Once applicants are notified about their status, 5-6 weeks after the deadline, they will have 3 additional weeks to register for the national conference. Failure to register and/or submit payment by the deadline on the notification will result in an automatic withdrawn abstract and/or travel award.

SACNAS offers two application periods; however, the summer deadline is only for undergraduate summer program participants. ALL eligible students are encouraged to apply during the spring period.

  • Spring application period: Mar. 29-Apr. 26
  • Summer program enrollment begins: Jun. 4
  • Summer application period (only for undergraduate summer program participants): Jun. 11-Jul. 12

For further information, visit the Student and Postdoc Research and Travel Scholarships Web pages where students may access important information and step-by-step instructions on both the abstract submission and travel scholarship application process.
