From: PO2::"bboyd@SCU.EDU.AU" "Bill Boyd" 31-OCT-1995 18:04:56.47 To: Multiple recipients of list QUATERNARY CC: Subj: QUATERNARY AUSTRALASIA/AUATRALSIAN QUATERNARY ASSOCIATION Dear list members, I have just tried to send the following message to the list, but it appears to have bounced back. This is a second attempt, which should be successful. If it is the second such message that you have received, please treat me with patience and accept my apologies. All the best, Bill Now for the real reason I am writing: I have been quietly "listening" to the Quaternary List mail here in Oz, and encourage everyone to keep using it. It is my turm to start talking. I am the editor of the journal Quaternary Australasia, the journal/newsletter of the Australasian Quaternary Association (AQUA). For your information, I have copied some notes (below) regarding the Association. As editor of Quaternary Australasia, I must take this opportunity to reiterate the usual editor's call for papers. The journal gets published twice a year, approximately April/May and Novevember/December, and generally focusses on antipodean issues of Quaternary interest (i.e. S.E. Asia, Australasia, Pacific, but material of relevance from further afield or by AQUA members is also welcome). I have taken the line that anything is publishable (within some very loose limits), and I am especially interested in publishing students' work (thesis abstracts, short papers), work in progress, end-of-field-season initial ideas, conference reports, book reviews, debate, etc, as well as full refereed papers (in a recent issue, we published a full listing of papers published in QA and its previous incarnation Australian Quaternary Newsletter since 1973; paper or electroinic copies are available). Refereeing can be arranged if requested. I also intend , for the next issue, to write up an abstract of some of the issues coming up through this Quaternary List, if no-one has any objections. If it is well received, I may make it a regular feature, especially for some of the members who may not be linked to a computer. There is a suggestion that AQUA start an electronic network, but since this List is operational, I might suggest that members join it. By the way, can someone send me subscription details again? Thanks. So, if there is anyone out there who wishes to subscribe to QA (i.e join AQUA), you are more than welcome. Likelwise, if you have anything to publish, the editor will hold you in high regard!! Electronic submission is perfect. Details of AQUA are as follow. The AUSTRALASIAN QUATERNARY ASSOCIATION (AQUA) is an informal grouping of people interested in the manifold phenomena of the Quaternary. It seeks to encourage research by younger workers in particular, to promote scientific communication between Australia and New Zealand, and to inform members of current research and publications. It holds biennial meetings and publishes the journal Quaternary Australasia twice a year. Quaternary Australasia is edited by Bill Boyd, with assistance from Colin Murray-Wallace. The annual subscription is $A20 or $10 for students, unemployed or retired persons. President 1993 - 1995 is Dr Ian Thomas, Department of Geography, University of Melbourne. An application form for membership can be received from Dr Geoff Hope, Membership Secretary, Division of Archaeology and Natural History, Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies, Australian National University, Canberra, 0200, or found at the back of issues of Quaternary Australasia. Members joining after September gain membership for the following year. Existing members will be sent a reminder in December.
