Teaching Pragmatics in the Classroom
Research in second language (L2) pragmatics has shown that instruction in pragmatics is more effective than exposure (or implicit teaching) for developing pragmatic competence. Yet, while both explicit and implicit instruction seem to improve learners' pragmatic competence, explicit teaching seems to be more effective than an inductive approach.
