Awards & Fellows: Lightner Witmer Award
The Division of School Psychology (Division 16) of the American
Psychological Association requests nominations for the 2008
Lightner Witmer Award. This award is presented to school psychologists
who have demonstrated exceptional scholarship early in their
careers. Continuing scholarship, rather than a thesis or dissertation
alone, is the primary consideration in making the award. Nominees
must be (a) within seven years of receiving their educational
specialist or doctoral degree as of September 1, 2008, and (b)
a Fellow, Member, Associate, or Student Affiliate of Division
16. A person does not need to have a doctoral degree to be eligible.
The award recipient will be asked to accept the award at the
division business meeting at the APA annual convention, present
an address at the subsequent APA Division Awards Symposium,
and may be asked to serve on a committee to select subsequent
award winners. Anyone, including a candidate him or herself,
may nominate a school psychologist for the award. Five sets
of materials should be submitted for each nominee, including
a vita, 3-5 signed letters of support, reprints, and other evidence
of scholarship. In order for nominators and those providing
supporting documentation to be notified of results along with
those nominated, please submit full contact information for
all involved on a contact sheet included with the application
portfolio. For this purpose, it is preferred that you use the
Excel sheet available at: http://www.indiana.edu/~div16/Nominator_Nominee_contact_sheet.xls.
The complete sets of materials should be sent as a hard copy
portfolio or on CD only. All nominations and related materials
should be submitted by March 15, 2008 to Amanda VanDerHeyden,
Chair of the Lightner Witmer Award Committee, Education Research
and Consulting, Inc., 102 Ashton Court, Fairhope, AL 36532 (amandavande@gmail.com).
