Publications: School Psychology Quarterly: Instructions to Authors

School Psychology Quarterly (SPQ) publishes empirical studies, theoretical analyses, and literature reviews encompassing the full range of research and practice issues that can make relevant contributions to school psychology. Papers based on psychological theory with clear implications for the integration of science and practice are preferred. Although SPQ focuses primarily on children, youth, and the adults who serve them, manuscripts pertaining to populations across the life span are also welcomed. We will continue to publish school psychological research that takes place in settings other than schools--helping to support the expanding definition of our field as detailed in our American Psychological Association (APA) Reaffirmation Petition. SPQ rests on the foundation of "School Psychology" as defined by the Division of School Psychology of the APA http://www.indiana.edu/~div16/goals.html).

Please submit all manuscripts electronically using the following link: http://www.jbo.com/jbo3/submissions/dsp_jbo.cfm?journal_code=spq

The submission should include a cover letter requesting that the paper be considered for publication in School Psychology Quarterly, that the manuscript is not being considered simultaneously elsewhere, and, for initial submissions, that APA ethical standards have been complied with in the treatment of all participants.

SPQ features a section called: Changing Practice, Changing Schools: Reviews of Programs, Books and Tests. This section features reviews of either training programs (including grant projects, internships) and/or intervention descriptions (implemented across a school system) that reflect innovative, psychologically based, empirically supported approaches to solving problems of practice. Additionally, we review books, computer programs and tests that describe and support these approaches. If you have a manuscript or ideas for a product that would be of interest to our readership and is consistent with the Changing Practices theme, please contact Dr. Robyn S. Hess, Section Editor, School Psychology Quarterly, School of Applied Psychology and Counselor Education, McKee Hall 248, University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, CO 80639-0120.

Proposals for Special Issues should include a vita for each guest editor and each senior author as well as six copies of: an overview statement summarizing the goals of the proposal, a brief description of each proposed article, and a time line for project completion.

Authors should prepare manuscripts according to the publication manual of the American Psychological Association, 5th ed. The Manual can be obtained from the APA, 750 First Street, NE, Washington, DC 20002-4242; phone: (202) 336-6013; e-mail Sarah Jordan at SJJ.APA@email.APA.ORG. Manuscripts must be accompanied by an abstract of 100-150 words. All abstracts must be typed on a separate sheet of paper. Typing instructions (all copy must be double spaced) and instructions on preparing tables, references, metrics, and abstracts appear in the Manual. Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements will be returned to the authors for revision.
