Director/Arranger: Joel Brainard
Joel Brainard was appointed director of the Marching Hundred Drumline in 2002. Graduating with a music education undergrad and jazz studies masters degree from IU, he was also a four year member of the IU Drumline. As a tenor player, Joel spent three seasons in DCI performing with The Spartans, The Bluestars, and the Blue Knights. Joel went on to "tech" tenors at Capital Regiment and serve as percussion caption head at Magic of Orlando. Joel has worked with many programs but is most known for his time teaching percussion at Bloomington HS North and the former WGI World Class ensemble, Indianapolis Independent (I-2). Currently, Joel is a music teacher at Batchelor Middle School (Bloomington), works as a drumset artist, and freelances as a marching percussion clinician. Using Remo heads, Zildjian cymbals, and Yamaha drums, Joel is also a proud member of the Vic Firth Education Team.
Asst. Director/Arranger: Chris Murphree
Chris Murphree received his bachelors in music education from Middle Tennessee State University. After multiple seasons of playing snare in the MTSU Drumline, Chris was appointed assistant instructor to reknowned marching percussion specialist Julie Davila. Specializing in front ensemble, he also spent 3 years in DCI performing with Spirit and the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps and one year with Music City Mystique (WGI). Chris has worked with several high schools throughout the middle Tennessee area and is known most for his work teaching The Troopers (DCI) front ensemble. Mr. Murphree is currently working on his masters in percussion performance at Indiana University and is excited to begin his "Hoosier" career working with the IU Drumline.
