TOEFL Requirements
Associate Instructor candidates
who enter IU in Fall Semester, 2006, or later must meet
minimum TOEFL requirements before they register for the
TEPAIC.
For either the
Paper-based TOEFL (PbT), the Computer-based TOEFL (CbT),
or the Internet-based TOEFL (IbT),
candidates must have minimum scores in the following
three areas: the overall TOEFL score, the
sub-scores, and (on both the PbT and CbT) the essay
component.

TOEFL (PBT) Scores:

Sub-scores (listening, structure, and reading): each 55
Essay score: 4
Minimum Computer-based

Overall score: 213
Sub-scores (listening, structure and reading): each 22
Essay score: 4
Minimum Internet-based

TOEFL scores may not be more than
two years old. If candidates do not have TOEFL scores
which are less than two years old, they may retake the
TOEFL or take the next Indiana English Proficiency Exam
(IEPE).
Admitted students who
do NOT satisfy these minimal are required to take IEPE
(and possibly the Second Language Studies
T101 courses related to performance on that exam).
