St. George Artificial Reef

The St. George is an artificial reef located off shore of Club Viva Dominicus Resort near La Romana, Dominican Republic. The shipwreck was deliberately sunk June 12, 1999 in front of Club Dominicus, to enhance the local diving in the area of the La Romana-Bayahibe Hotel Association. Although not a historic vessel, the St George is a good representative example of transatlantic freighters, and now serves as a healthy habitat for the abundant marine life in the area.
