R421 Underwater Investigations
Mock Shipwreck Mapping Exercise
In October 1997, students in the R421 Underwater Investigations class
within the Underwater Science program participated in an underwater
mapping exercise. Artifacts were placed in a shallow (5' depth) pool,
oriented in such a way as to resemble a shipwreck with associated
components. The task was then to accurately measure the artifacts and
make a site plan, implementing SCUBA gear, tape measures, and underwater
slates.
Linked below is a site plan developed by part of the
class, as well as a demonstration of utilizing PIT (Photographic Imaging
Technique) to the same site plan.
