Who is Eligible to Attend?
These courses provide archaeological site recognition training to key personnel on staff with, or working under the auspices of, CAL FIRE. This training program is intended for key personnel in the private sector who are responsible for completing archaeological surveys, impact evaluations, and site recording requirements set forth in California's Forest Practice Rules. Such personnel include Registered Professional Foresters (RPFs) who prepare Timber Harvesting Plans (THPs) and other Forest Technicians, Supervised Designees, Licensed Timber Operators, and others who participate in cultural resource survey and reporting work supporting THPs. The training is also intended for key CDF personnel include those positions with responsibilities for archaeological review work required by the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Such personnel in include Forest Practice Inspectors, Environmental Coordinators, State Forest Managers, Forestry Assistance Specialists, VMP Coordinators, Pre-Fire Engineers, project planners, and others with responsibilities in archaeological review work supporting CDF projects. The training is also offered to CDF staff in a fire protection capacity to enable such personnel to help identify and protect archaeological sites that might be impacted during wildland fire suppression work, when such protection is possible. The training courses are also open to landowners, Native Americans, and others that may have occasion to work on or review CDF projects, environmental planners, personnel from related agencies, and members of the general public, if space is available. During enrollment, priority will first be given to CDF and private sector RPFs and others holding key positions responsible for the preparation or review of Timber Harvesting Plans and other CDF projects. After a certain period of time, enrollment will be offered to others requesting to complete the training in order to fill the classes.
