E100 grades will be based on one hour exam (15% of the total course grade), one final exam (25% of the total course grade), two half-hour quizzes (10% each), homework exercises assigned most weeks (20% of course grade), attendance and quality of class participation in discussion sections (20%). Major tests must be completed to achieve a passing grade in E100.
Make-up quizzes and exams. These will not be given except in cases of extreme need. Approval to take a make-up test for reasons other than illness must be requested and granted before the scheduled date of the test. Medical excuses require a doctor's note.
Homework assignments with Friday due dates are due at the start of Friday discussion sections. Assignments handed in after section meetings will be penalized one full letter grade and an additional letter grade each weekday thereafter (medical excuses require a doctor's note).
Academic dishonesty: Over the past few years, a number of students have failed this course due to academic dishonesty. Please read these basic rules carefully:
Any student who is found to have cheated or to have plagiarized will receive an F for the course. The university defines cheating as: "dishonesty of any kind with respect to examinations, course assignments, alteration of records, or illegal possession of examinations." Plagiarism is defined as: "the offering of the work of someone else as your own," without full acknowledgment. If you have any doubts about what is acceptable in this course, ask your instructor.
