Who is eligible to participate in CPI?
All applicants must meet the following requirements:

For non-native speakers of Chinese: minimum of intermediate-high proficiency in reading and writing and advanced-low proficiency in speaking and listening

Citizen or permanent resident of the United States

Currently practicing middle or high school teacher of Chinese or planning to be practicing by Fall 2010
- Since the purpose of STARTALK is to increase the number of active, certified teachers in the United States, only citizens or permanent residents of the United States will be accepted.
- Accepted applicants who are practicing Chinese teachers (at any level) will be required to send in a video clip (at least 10 minutes in length) showing them accomplishing one instructional objective (e.g., teaching a grammar point, a cultural concept, etc.). Videos must be received by 5:00 p.m. on May 23, 2008. If you do not already have such a video, please plan ahead to ensure that you can provide one in time.
- All participants will be required to bring a laptop. If you do not own one, you will have to borrow or rent one for the duration of the institute.
