Program Abstract: "Due to political conditions around Kyoto, those who work for the Choshu clan loses their position and are driven out of Kyoto. They panic in fear that, with one more violent incident, the Choshu clan will be conquered as an imperial enemy. In Kyoto Kogoro Katsura, in an effort to improve the Choshu clan’s image, sends the enraged Shinsaku Takasugi back to Choshu. What awaited Shinsaku in Choshu, however, is imprisonment in the Noyama-goku jail. After being attacked by the Shinsen-gumi party in the Incident of Ikeda-ya, the Choshu clan eventually decides to retaliate with force and goes up to Kyoto for an attack. However, they are defeated by the Shogunate troops in one battle after another, and an Imperial order is issued to conquer the Choshu clan. A combined fleet of four foreign countries also makes an attack against the Choshu clan, who advocates for the expulsion of foreigners, and the clan is thoroughly defeated by the modern weapons. As a result of these circumstances, the structure of the clan completely changes, and a more conventional party, whose policy is to apologize to and obey the Shogunate, comes to control the clan and executes the three senior retainers."
