310. Kunjongjon, Kyongbok
Palace Choson, rebuilt in 1867, National Treasure No. 224, Seoul This is the main hall of Kyongbok Palace where state cere-monies such as enthronements were held from the early Choson period. The hall burned down during the Japanese invasions at the end of the 16th century and rebuilt in 1867. The two-tier stone terrace is enclosed by stone railings with steps on all four sides, and the gateposts are adorned with carvings of auspicious animals. The hall is double-eaved as are the main halls of Buddhist temples but inside it has tall columns and a single story, providing a clear view from floor to ceiling. Click here to return |
