607. Gilt
Bronze Standing Buddha of Yangp'yong Silla, iixth-seventh century, National Treasure No. 186, Height 30cm, National Museum of Korea This elongated figure wears a robe draped over both shoul-ders, forming a U-shape at the abdomen. The hands are held in the abhaya and varada mudra gestures, common to Buddhist images from the Three Kingdoms period. The stylistic features suggest strong links with the Northern Qi style at the end of the Six Dynasties period in China. However, the facial expression is clearly Korean. Click here to return |
