219. Black Dog by Kim Tu-ryang, Choson, mid-18th century Ink on paper, 23x263cm, National Museum of Korea Kim Tu-ryang (1696-1763) was a master painter of landscapes, divine generals and animals. This black dog is one of his finest animal paintings and reflects his use of Western painting techniques in its depiction of the dog's body and hair. The pose and details around the eyes, eye-brows and mouth are Kim's unique creation, however. The background is summarily treated so as to enhance the detailed depiction of the dog.
