518. Jar,
White porcelain with underglaze blue deco-ration Choson, mid-lSth century National Treasure No. 219. Height 41cm, Diameter at the mouth 15.7cm, Diameter at base 18.2cm, Ho-am Art Museum In the early Choson period, many porcelains imitated the blue and white porcelain of the Chinese Ming period. The lotus petals found on the shoulders of this jar are copied from Ming prototypes. The plum and bamboo designs are also more complex than Koreanized plant designs, and the technique of drawing the outlines first and filling them in with fine repeated brushstrokes is quite different from the single brushstrokes preferred in most Korean white porce-lains.
