White porcelain with iron underglaze design Choson, second half of the 17th century National Treasure No. 107, Height 53.8cm, Diameter at mouth 19.5cm, Diameter at base 19.2cm, Ewha Womens University Museum Iron underglaze decorations first appeared in the early Choson period and became more abstract in the mid-Choson period. White porcelain with semi-abstract designs in iron underglaze were generally made in provincial kilns, while the official kilns near Seoul produced white porcelain with subsidiary patterns and white porcelain with realistic decora-tions. This jar is typical of the products of the official kilns in the latter half of the 17th century.
