William B. Walstad is John T. and Mable M. Hay Professor of Economics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He received his Ph.D. degree in 1978 from the University of Minnesota and has been on the economics faculty at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln since 1982. Professor Walstad received the 1988 Villard Award for research in economic education and has won college and national awards for his economics teaching. He serves as chair of the Committee on Economic Education of the American Economic Association and as chair of the Research Committee of the National Association of Economic Educators.

Professor Walstad has written over a hundred scholarly works in economic education. His articles have been published in economics and education journals such as the American Economic Review: Papers and Proceedings; Journal of Economic Education; Journal of Economic Perspectives; Journal of Economic Literature; Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance; Review of Economics and Statistics; Applied Measurement in Education; Journal of Educational Research; Educational Leadership; Journal of Business Education; Educational Researcher; Theory and Research in Social Education; Theory into Practice; and Social Education.

Among the books he has written or edited are: Reforming Economics and Economics Teaching in the Transition Economies: From Marx to Market in the Classroom (Elgar, 2002) (with M. Watts); The "E" Generation: Prepared for the Entrepreneurial Economy (Kendall/Hunt, 2000) (with M. Kourilsky); Seeds of Success: Entrepreneurship and Youth (Kendall/Hunt, 1999) (with M. Kourilsky); Teaching Undergraduate Economics: A Handbook for Instructors (McGraw-Hill, 1998) (with P. Saunders); Secondary Economics and Business Education (EBEA, 1996); An International Perspective on Economic Education (Kluwer, 1994); Effective Economic Education in the Schools (NCEE and NEA, 1990); and Econometric Modelling in Economic Education Research (Kluwer, 1987) (with W. Becker). He is the author of the Study Guide (15th edition) and two test banks for the McConnell and Brue principles of economics textbook.

Dr. Walstad is the author of the Test of Economic Literacy (2001) for senior high schools, the Test of Economic Knowledge (1987) for middle schools, and the Basic Economics Test (1990) for elementary schools. He often conducts national and international workshops on economics teaching and assessment for economics professors, and has served as a consultant to the National Council on Economic Education, the Kauffman Foundation, the Educational Testing Service, the Pew Charitable Trusts, the Calvin K. Kazanjian Foundation, the Agency for Instructional Television, the American Institutes for Research, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.
