Title: The Stock Market Game: Classroom Use and Strategy

Abstract: The Stock Market Game is a simulation in which students use hypothetical "money" to buy and sell stocks, seeking the highest portfolio value in a ten-week period. Questions concerning the costs and benefits of using the game in class are considered, with market and survey evidence used to provide guidance to educators considering whether and how to play the game. The paper also applies the economics of capital markets to the game in an effort it identify strategies likely to win and to lose. Differences between the game and the real world are noted, along with their implications for students and economic educators.
