Title: Incorporating Data Collection and Written Reports in Microeconomics
Abstract: This article advocates inclusion of short data collection and write-up assignments in a variety of microeconomics courses. The article first discusses the advantages of utilizing this teaching technique and presents general guidelines for conducting and grading these assignments. Then five examples of this type of assignment are presented and discusses. They include group experiments and surveys conducted both inside and outside of class. The article concludes with a discussion of possible extensions of this technique to other economics courses.
