Title: Total Quality Management (TQM) of Teaching and Learning

Abstract: This paper suggests that one possible avenue for achieving national goals for undergraduate education lies in the application of Total Quality Management (TQM) to the teaching and learning process. TQM teaching and learning focuses attention on the management function that transforms teacher and student effort into learning. The paper outlines the attributes of the industrial TQM model and then demonstrates how these attributes can be successfully utilized to manage the teaching and learning process. Finally, this paper defines TQM teaching and learning to mean collaborative and holistic application of the ideas of the industrial TQM model to teaching and learning.
