Title: An Online Resource for Antitrust and Industrial Organization Courses: The Antitrust Case Summary Browser
URL: http://www.stolaf.edu/people/becker/antitrust
Descriptive Note: The Antitrust Case Summary Browser is a free, on-line supplement for courses in antitrust and industrial organization that provides summaries of key U.S. Supreme Court decisions in antitrust. The site offers multiple indexes to accommodate a wide variety of classes beyond traditional antitrust from economic history to topics courses such as sports economics. Although other sites provide court decisions, the Antitrust Case Summary Browser is the only comprehensive source dedicated to antitrust cases.
The current Web site began in 1993 as an experimental alternative to bound casebooks (e.g., Breit and Elzinga 1997). It now includes Supreme Court summaries of nearly 200 antitrust cases. Cases are indexed by area of law (price fixing, merger, etc.) and product or industry (sports, oil and gas, etc.) as well as chronologically and alphabetically. In addition to antitrust case summaries, the site also provides the texts of the major antitrust statutes, links to domestic and international antitrust sites, and daily antitrust news bulletins. Cases that cite each other are hyperlinked and the full text versions of each case are readily available.
Authors have cited it as an authoritative source for antitrust case law (e.g., Chicco 1997; Newberg 2000) and academic and governmental organizations such as the OECD, EU, USDoJ, and RAND have cited or linked to the site as a recommended resource.
