STAND for Children Leadership Center   Temporary Outreach Coordinator

Working as a key member of the Stand for Children Indiana staff, the Temporary Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for the implementation a campaign to help families chose higher quality schools in the Indianapolis area.  This will be done by disseminating the School Chooser, a resource created in partnership with GreatSchools. The Temporary Outreach Coordinator is a full-time, temporary position (16 weeks) and will report to the Indianapolis Director.

Qualifications

  • Unwavering commitment to and alignment with Stand for Children and Stand for Children Leadership Center’s shared goal of improving public schools;
  • At least 2 years of professional experience; political or community organizing experience a plus;
  • Experience working with diverse populations that span across all ethnic and socioeconomic  levels;
  • Very strong interpersonal, communication, and team-building skills; ability to initiative, foster, and leverage contacts and networks to achieve strong, positive outcomes;
  • Exceptional communication skills and a track record of developing and delivering persuasive and concise content to audiences;
  • Strong project management skills and keen attention to detail and follow-up;
  • Capacity to build and maintain effective systems in a fast-paced, ever-shifting campaign environment; and
  • Fluency in Spanish language a plus.

National Conference of State Legislatures   Policy Specialist- Education Program

This individual will take a leadership role for NCSL and the NCSL Education Program on issues and activities related to post-secondary education, including higher education funding, student financial assistance, remedial education, higher education preparation and completion.  This includes tracking the status of legislative proposals in the states and summarizing/analyzing that legislation, following trends, developing web based material, preparing briefs, and making presentations to legislatures and other audiences.  In addition, this individual will respond to requests for information from legislators, staff, media, and others and assist with details and logistics for meetings and state-based work that are a part of the Program's higher education work.  The ideal candidate will have background/experience with these issues, understand the state legislative policy process, be a good writer and strong public speaker, and be able to assist state legislatures with complex education policy issues.

Bachelor's degree plus five years of relevant work experience.  The following work experience or some equivalent combination is preferred:  at least one year of professional experience with NCSL or with a state legislature or government, two years of professional public policy experience.  Up to three years of post-baccalaureate education (i.e., master’s degree, advanced professional degree or doctoral degree) may be substituted for the required work experience.

University of Wisconsin-Madison Policy and Research Analyst

Candidates should meet several of the following criteria:

* knowledge of education policy;
* training and/or experience in policy analysis, program evaluation or cost-benefit analysis;
* training in conducting multiple regression analyses;
* experience in data analysis and reporting;
* experience in project management;
* experience in preparing policy briefs, papers and/or long reports.
* written and oral communication skills for disseminating research and policy findings to clients and stakeholders.

This position is located in the Value-Added Research Center (VARC) within the Wisconsin Center for Education Research. The policy and research analyst will contribute to multiple VARC projects through data and policy analysis.

 Assistant Professor In Educational Policy Analysis and Program

 This tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant professor will begin in August 2013. The successful candidate will teach and conduct research in the areas of educational policy and quantitative research methods.

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in economics, education, political science, sociology, or a related area, a proven scholarly research and publication record associated with a research extensive university or demonstrated potential to establish such a record, and evidence of ability to generate external funding for research, such as from the Institute of Education Sciences and the National Science Foundation. Required skills include a research focus on important areas of K-16 policy, such as student achievement, teacher and leader quality and effectiveness, access and equity, school reform, and/or educational attainment; expertise in quasi-experimental research methods; the ability to teach introductory and advanced quantitative methods; experience or interest in working with K-12 schools and/or postsecondary institutions; and an interest in contributing to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and outreach. Expertise in field experiments is preferred.

Candidates must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States and must have completed all the requirements for the doctorate by the time of the initial appointment. Postdoctoral researchers are asked to participate in the intellectual community of the Center for Research on Educational Opportunity and the Department of Sociology and to further their own intellectual development and research. Researchers will have full access to the Institute’s and Sociology Department’s collective resources in computing, print/data libraries, and administrative services. Faculty in the Institute come from the departments of Sociology, Psychology, and Economics, and the Fellows associated with the Institute come from a broad range of disciplines.
