The Women Faculty Mentoring Program:  Matches first year women faculty members with tenured women outside their departments but in related disciplines.  Program goals include career networking, reducing isolation, retaining new faculty.  Mentoring contact is one-on-one along with twice a year group meetings.   A program brochure can be viewed online at http://www.indiana.edu/~owa/progdir.htm , scroll down to the program name, click on "A copy of the WFMP brochure can be seen here."  Information can be obtained from the Office of Women's Affairs, 812-855-3849.

Students
FASE Mentor in the Faculty and Staff for Student Excellence program. FASE pairs its students with faculty and staff mentors who share their academic and social interests.  Mentors and mentees meet regularly during the first six weeks of the year; after this transitional period, participants are free to meet as often as they choose.  Mentors and mentees enjoy a wide variety of activities together, from operas to football games.  The FASE family also gathers each semester for social events such as pizza parties and recognition banquets. KSB International Student Mentoring

Student Advocates Office/Division of Student Affairs.  The Student Advocates Office has depended on faculty emeriti to provide caring and skilled expertise in helping students for over twenty years.  Faculty emeriti serve as advocates who assist students in solving problems they encounter on campus by providing individual attention to a wide variety of issues.  An article in the IU Home Pages about the role of emeriti in the advocacy program serves as a useful introduction to the program.  Click on this link to view the article " Emeriti profs dispense practical wisdom at IUB's Students Advocates Office ."

Advocates generally work one four-hour shift per week.  Networking opportunities and parking privileges are extended to advocates.  Information about the Student Advocates Office is available from their web site http://campuslife.indiana.edu/Advocates/index.html or by contacting the program director, Sally Jones, at 855-0761 or email <sejones@indiana.edu>.

Women in Science Project  (WISP)The WISP program promotes the participation of women in science and mathematics fields at the undergraduate, graduate, and faculty levels.  The programs includes a wide range of academic areas.  Mentors are encouraged to meet with mentees at least twice during a semester.  Information about the WISP mentoring program is available on line at http://www.indiana.edu/~owa/WISP/mentoring.html A program brochure can be viewed online at http://www.indiana.edu/~owa/progdir.htm , scroll down to the program name, click on "You can see a copy of our brochure by clicking here."  Information can be obtained from the Office of Women's Affairs, 812-855-3849.

Women Partners : Matches undergraduate women in their junior year with professional women in the community.  Junior partners shadow their Senior Partners, meet their colleagues, attend meetings and discuss challenges women face.  For information contact Office of Women's Affairs, 812-855-3849.
 


Teaching
 

The Bloomington Division of Continuing Studies seeks emeritus faculty to teach noncredit Lifelong Learning courses in the local community.  Teaching areas include:  humanities, music, science, health, languages, current events, sports, test preparation, computing, and management skills.  The Division also welcomes ideas from faculty for new courses.  Contact Jeanne Madison <jmadison@indiana.edu> or 855-1171 for all of the subject areas listed above except for computing and management.  For those two areas, contact James Pershing <japershi@indiana.edu> or 855-1137.  Current course offerings can be viewed on the web at

Miscellaneous
 

Visiting International Faculty Host Program  Patrick O'Meara, Dean of International Programs, invites faculty emeriti to participate in a program to welcome and host international faculty who are visiting the IU Bloomington campus.  This hosting involves activities such as giving campus tours, answering questions, and casual interaction.  Faculty and librarian emeriti interested in the program should contact the Dean of the Faculties Office by phone at 855-2809 or by email <emeriti@indiana.edu>.
