K406•K506 Projects In Electronic Music

Main Topic: Group Installation Music/Art-review of examples found by class. Minute(as in teeny-tiny) peak at programming an Arduino board for sensing

Advanced Reading for This Class--again! (a short content quiz might ensue to keep everyone honest):
Gary Kendall: Spatial Perception and Cognition in Multichannel Audio for Electroacoustic Music (these two articles may require IU login)
Ewan Stefani and Karen Lauke: Music, Space and Theatre: Site-specific approaches to multichannel spatialisation

Advanced Assignment: Please spend about 15 minutes finding online documentation of TWO installations that involve sound in some way (though not necessarily just sound, as most do not). Spend enough time to be picky about your choices and choose ones you like, not hate. Please post the URLs for both in the Oncourse Journal thread entitled Week 3 Installation Assignment. It's pretty easy to find examples from a Google search, but some suggestions are to search for Installation Art, Sound Art, etc. Please post by Wednesday noon, and check out everyone else's before class. If you wish to add any personal commentary, you are welcomed to.

FYI, these assignments are graded Pass/Fail...failure to post by the designated time results in an 'F.' Surprise!

Music With A View

Call for artists
Music With A View is a free music festival devoted to the discovery of new, fresh sound created and performed by contemporary musicians. Each event features the works of 2—3 emerging and/or mid-career composers and is followed by an open discussion between the artists and the audience. Music With A View was created to respond to a need for a lab-like space in which working artists can engage in a meaningful dialogue with the audience. It is dedicated to nurturing new works and to the free exchange of ideas, thoughts and opinions between artists and audience. The Flea is pleased to announce that Music with a View will return May 14—27, 2012, with special activities such as lectures, workshops & forums adding to the festival’s excitement. Prospective artists are invited to go to the Flea Theater's website for details and application form.

Deadline: September 26, 2011
