ENGLISH MAJOR REQUIREMENTS: CONCENTRATION IN PUBLIC AND PROFESSIONAL WRITING

The following requirements apply to English majors seeking a concentration in Public and Professional Writing who matriculated during or before spring 2013:

Total 30 hours

L202 - Literary Interpretation *(3 credit hours)

L371 - Critical Practices(3 credit hours)

One historical literature course from the Beginnings Through the Sixteenth Century list. (3 credit hours)
One historical literature course from the Sixteenth Through Eighteenth Centuries list. (3 credit hours)
One historical literature course from the Nineteenth Century list. (3 credit hours)
One historical literature course from the 1900 to the Present list. (3 credit hours)

W231 Professional Writing Skills (3 credit hours)

W350 Advanced Expository Writing (3 credit hours)

Two additional public and professional writing courses (6 credit hours) from the following list:
L240 Literature and Public Life
W240 Community Service Writing
W270 Argumentative Writing
W280 Literary Editing and Publishing
W321 Advanced Technical Writing
G302 Structure of Modern English
G405 Studies in English Language
L498 Internship in English (with approval)

*L202 will be offered through summer 2014. If you do not complete L202 prior to fall 2014, you must complete L260, Introduction to Literary Analysis. Your advisor will, upon your request, make the exception to your record to count L260 in place of L202 in your current requirements. As L260 will not carry College of Arts and Sciences Education (CASE) Intensive Writing designation, we strongly recommend that you consider fulfilling your Intensive Writing requirement with one of the Introduction to Genre courses L203-6.
