In this course, students will become acquainted with the analysis of  signed and spoken language discourse and sociolinguistic theory with an  emphasis on applications to signed languages and interpretation. Topics  covered include conversation structure, pragmatics, discourse models,  diglossia, language contact, language attitudes, language policy,  bilingualism, and pidgins and creoles.
