My compliments to you for pre-testing your students before your evolution unit, and also for introducing your students to the subject at this time in your course. As I'm sure you realize, finding out just where students' thinking IS is the first step to providing them with experiences that will conflict with those misconceptions on this subject, and help them to begin replacing those ideas with current scientific understanding. Most of the lessons on the ENSI site are designed to provide those kinds of interactive experiences. If you have the time, I'd be interested in seeing the results from your class(es), along with the town and state where you are located, and the grade level and course(s) in which the survey was given. I am compiling pre-post data for this survey and may eventually post a summary of these data on the ENSI site. If you or your school is named (probably not), I promise I would request your permission. Here are the most accurate responses for the Evolution Survey: |

Sometime soon I will add a list of suitable comments
for each of the items in the survey. But in the meantime, before
giving this Evolution Survey, be sure to review the information
on our Introduction to Evolution page at http://www.indiana.edu/~ensiweb/lessons/unt.ev.f.html
and read the links included in that page. There are also other Evolution Surveys that you could administer, depending on your objectives. That Intro to Evolution page includes resources for this. |
