Ex. 1. Searching the Published Literature

Easy access to published data. Imagine a researcher wishing to conduct a comparative study of behavior across many species, relying on published data collected by other researchers. Instead of gathering and re-typing these data from the published literature, the researcher comes to EthoBank for fast access to large tables of data.

Here are some datasets of published information on lizard headbob displays that might be used in a meta-analysis, and made more easily combined and searched by software in EthoBank.

  1. On-line archive of video clips from Charles C. Carpenter's collection of lizard displays.
  2. Measures of headbob displays of 42 Sceloporus species as compiled in Martins (1993, Am. Nat. 142: 994-1018, JSTOR) from Carpenter (1978): Martins1993Table.xls
  3. Display-Action-Pattern graphs of headbob displays for 42 Sceloporus species from Carpenter (1978).
  4. Measures of Liolaemus lizard headbob displays as compiled in Martins et al. (2004; Anim. Behav. 68: 453-463, doi:10.1016/j.anbehav.2003.08.026): LiolaemusSummary.xls
