Project CARE:
Chemistry Taking Action to Research and Enhance Achievement

The OMSLD and the IU Chemistry Department have been working together for several years to support students who are beginning their study in chemistry and the sciences. Project CARE represents an effort to support students through a combination of mentoring and tutorial support as they take C101 Introduction to Chemistry with Dr. Michael Edwards, faculty member of the IU Chemistry Department.

Results of the program have been especially promising in supporting students to achieve to their fullest potential in C101 as well as to move on to further study and course work within the Chemistry Department and in the sciences at Indiana University. Additionally, students serving as mentors benefit through the development of mentoring and tutorial skills, participation in a unique form of community and campus service, and in documentation of their experience in letters of recommendation for entrance into professional and graduate school.
