I am interested in the visual dualities that exist between language and medium. Combining humor, cynicism, and sculpture I hope to subvert the conventional connotations of words and/or materials. My greatest ambition is to leave the viewer with a slightly skewed perception of something, which they had previously taken as common knowledge.

Chris Rothermel Received his B.F.A from the University of Georgia in Athens. He then received his Masters in Fine Arts from The University of Oregon in Eugene, OR.
Most recently, Chris returned from Hong Kong, China where in 2005 he was one of the three founding members of the Academy of Visual Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University. During his six years in China, Chris engaged in extensive funded research in different industrial zones of the Mainland of China where sculptural and architectural mass production took place.
“My primary interests are in the interpretation of sculpture as a medium through collective experience. My research model is praxis based which is interplay between my disciplinary knowledge – my skill base and experience in the field–research – a combination of theoretical and field research – and action – the application of my observations in material form.”
