A Hike at the Dunes

Oct 7, 2005

I had a really great weekend. My brother, Eric, came to Merrillville (where I
live) for a friend's wedding. He ended up staying the entire weekend. He was a really great excuse to be a little lazy in spite of all the studying I know I should have done.

We have now started Step II. At this campus, the year is divided into different steps. Step I was biochemistry. Step II is gross anatomy, histology and embryology. It is the dreaded step because there is so much material to learn in a relatively short period of time. We've only just started and it is already stressful! But I managed to ignore the stress by going to the Indiana Dunes State Park.

On the drive to the park, there are road signs indicating how to enter the park. Right next to these signs are signs indicating how to get to the smoke stacks. I guess that just fits with the area! The park was really nice. I thought I was in pretty good shape until we started hiking up the sand to get to the lake. What a workout! We relaxed by the lake for a little while and tried not to look to the left where the smoke stacks make a beautiful addition to the scenery. We hiked back to the car and my brother and I went our separate ways—Eric to put on a business suit and go to a meeting in Michigan—and me to put on my scrubs and work on the cadaver dissection.
