A Fine Turkey Day

Nov 28, 2005

Andy and April and the puppy.
It was a fine Turkey Day. My family got together at our dad’s and feasted upon the traditional turkey, stuffing, and all that jazz. I ate so much I could have popped. It’s really nice to have family, and on my top 10 list of things to be thankful for, they’re at the top. Speaking of top 10 lists, here’s my top 10 thankful list:

10. Dry humor
9. Music, movies, and the arts
8. Books and my ability to read (which isn’t what I told the telemarketer when they called the other day trying to sell magazine subscriptions):
Telemarketer: What magazines do you read regularly?
Me: I don’t know how to read.
Telemarketer: Is there anyone else home who lives there that I could speak to?
Me: I live alone.

7. Electrical lamps
6. A roof over my head, protection from the elements
5. Sheets for the bed that don’t feel like sleeping on sand paper
4. Really nice ink pens
3. Language
2. Friends who have been in my life for years, and who are all very fabulous in their own right
1. Family who have been there for me countless times, and who always turn in regard to me

After the feast, we all journeyed to the cinema (we were eight) to watch the new Harry Potter movie. They should really hurry up and finish the series; those kids aren’t looking 14 anymore . . . they’ve all grown really handsome, and look like Macy’s models or something.

So many friends stopped in town this week for the holiday. I got to see my friend Sarah, whom I haven’t seen in *years*. My friends John, Abby, and April all came by as well. And there was much merry-making. Then we went to go see Rent. Richmond received a print of Rent that was badly in need of some film restoration. Maybe some anti-Rent person was running over it with their car and cackling into the air the whole time. Needless to say, it was a really good movie, forgiving the really interesting decisions they made with the dramaturgy—only forgiving mind you, hardly acceptable.

The time off from school has been nice, but it’s weird to be away from it. There’s also been a little bit of time this break not only to catch up on work, but get a little ahead of stuff and things.

I’ve included some painting pictures, they’re done mostly in oils . . . oils aren’t for people who like to make decisions I’m told.
