A Week of Firsts

Sep 22, 2005

Sunny Jewell, an IU Kokomo student, types on her laptop. This week was definitely a week of firsts! I had first quizzes and tests all week long. I have learned the value of studying and having all of your work pay off. I was so nervous about my first test after all the negative things I have heard about college tests. It turned out not to be that bad, and I also got out early enough to get some more studying in for my other tests coming up.

I have also been preoccupied with the three papers I have due today. After getting them all finished, I felt like such a load was lifted off my back. I also found out that I can get an A on a paper. I am beginning to feel more encouraged and a lot more like a college student. The only difference I feel is how much more I am paying in gas for the 45-minute round trip to campus than the average college student. Thank heaven for scholarships!

Outside of school, I have also had some firsts this week. Although I work at IU Kokomo, I am still getting used to switching between student and staff. In this switch, I gave my first formal tour to a set of around 20 or so high school students. I was so nervous that I would fall on my face or say something totally stupid. At one point, I was so out of breath from talking that I thought I was going to pass out. (What an impression, huh?)
