Learning in the Real World

Oct 6, 2005

After a couple of fast-paced weeks, I can finally say that I have gotten the hang of being a college student. Everything is finally starting to slow down. In fact, this week has actually been a little bit boring. Aside from school, I have learned exactly what a college student’s budget is like. This week I had to shell out over $400 for wedding supplies and an emergency run to the body shop for my car. It’s pretty amazing just how fast money can get spent!

What I do have to look forward to is my job shadow experience I will be doing tomorrow morning. For my freshman nursing class, we are required to do a job shadow and a police ride along. For my job shadow, I will be following a nurse in the obstetrics ward. I am so excited to be able to actually get into the workplace! I hope I can come away with better insight into what being a midwife is all about. The ride along, however, scares me a little. I am not sure that I want to be alone with a police officer I do not know for that long. I am sure it will end up being great, but I am still a little apprehensive.
