Last night Randy and Ruthie from MTV’s Real World came to IUS for a program called “Getting Real about Alcohol.” They are two of the most infamous celebrities known for their drinking habits. SPC, the Student Program Council, organized it. I was debating whether to go or not because I felt tired and I wanted to go home. My last class ended at 2:30 p.m., but I’m glad I stayed until 7 p.m. to see the program. It was kind of cool, because we got free pizza and drinks while waiting for the celebrities.
The whole deal was that Randy would speak most of the time, and then show a short clip from their shows to visually explain what they were trying to say. I really liked some of the clips. One clip showed Ruthie, on Real World Hawaii, talking about the honeymoon period. Ruthie explained to all of us that the honeymoon period is the first couple of weeks where everybody in the house is just happy and comfortable with each other. Her honeymoon period ended the third day when she blacked out in a club.
Randy gave us some advice about drinking. He told us that the buddy system is the best way to go drinking, to never let anyone buy your drinks, and to always watch the bartender while he or she is making your drink.
After all, not too bad for a school like IUS. Next time, I'd like to see someone who is not infamous.
