Hiding Out to Study

Oct 31, 2005

Alex by the lake.

Midterms have just finished and now I have only half a year to bring my grades up. I am kind of scared because I recently let them drop because of lack of studying. Everybody seems to be able to find me these days. I find less and less time for myself to study. Whenever I finally find a place to go, someone seems to find me and get me to go out to eat, play a sport, etc. Mainly these people are fraternity and sorority people.

Just the other day a mentor, Tamar Frederick, was hiding behind the shelter house, leaning on a tree behind the pond. I remember thinking to myself that she is also very easy to find on campus because she is very involved in the campus and works two on-campus jobs. I asked her how she finds time to study, with everyone finding her and all. She told me, "I have to hide somewhere and it has to be different every time.”

I thought about what she said, so I started to study by the shelter house, when it wasn't so cold. I got so much done because the only people who go down there go there for lunch in small groups or are going there for a class. I find that when this happens I have to go to the library.

The lesson learned from this experience is not to go to the student O area as often and hide from any distractions until my goal is completed.
