Another Manic Tuesday
Oct 21, 2005
It has been another busy week and another semisuccessful attempt at balancing my responsibilities. I didn’t do so well on Tuesday though. I woke up bright and early and went to work. I left work early to go to class and then came home for a quick lunch. Then I went back to campus for a test retake, then to a meeting with a professor. Then I went to my other job (by this time it is well into the evening) and on the way home I stopped at the grocery store. I got back home at about 10 p.m. I relaxed a tiny bit, gave thanks that the day was over, and went to bed.
Sounds like a pretty jam-packed successful day. Well, not quite, because I completely forgot that I was supposed to go back to my first job to finish what I started in the morning. The next morning I woke up to the ringing of my cell phone just as I was about to hand over the shroud of Turin (which I rediscovered) over to the pope. It was my boss. She had a few questions about the work I had forgotten to complete. Of course, I felt bad but really there was no damage done.
When I thought about it later I was honestly a bit relieved that I had apparently repressed the need to return to work, because I don’t think I had another ounce of productivity in me. I was spent. Besides, had I not gotten to sleep when I did, I might not have been able to rediscover the shroud (which, by the way, I had to courageously rescue from the Nazis). You tell me what’s more important, paperwork or saving priceless world treasures? Huh, I wonder if I can put that on my resume?
