Striving for Balance

Nov 10, 2005

Well, it looks like my journals are going to get pretty monotonous for a few weeks. Pretty much all I can say is I’m busy. I strive for balance. Sometimes I achieve it, but most of the time I just end up having to sacrifice sleep. Although, when I think about it, I’m still probably getting more sleep now than I did when I went to school the first time.

My first major was pretty intense. We didn’t have tests usually. We mostly worked on big projects that lasted about half a semester at a time. There was no possibility for cramming like you can for a test, just long hours of tedious work. I, along with everyone else in my major, had to pull more all-nighters than any of us thought would be required of a college degree. I remember having to stay up for three days with no sleep during a finals week in order to get everything done. Oh, those were the days.

I guess that is one thing I can say—it has been quite a while since I have had to pull an all-nighter. My job still requires it from time to time when there is a deadline, but that is very infrequent.
God help us dedicated students! . . . And thank heavens for the power nap.
