Eligibility and Requirements

Successful applicants should:

  • Demonstrate commitment to participatory and experiential learning through FCI application materials and subsequent assessments
  • Display the appropriate Chinese proficiency level through application materials

In order to be fully considered for the Flagship Chinese Institute, each applicant must submit these documents:

  • Online application, including:
    • 500-word English essay (see application for description)
    • Chinese essay (see application for description)
  • Recommendation form and letter from current main language instructor
  • Most recent college transcript (unofficial copy acceptable)

In addition to submitting the above materials, all applicants will be required to demonstrate their language ability via two assessments: 

  • An online placement test (directions for which will be sent after your application has been received)
  • personal or phone interview (to be arranged after your application has been received)
