OPEN THE BOOKS! - RALLY TO DEMAND CORPORATE TRANSPARENCY

When: Thursday, March 11 at 3:00pm
Where: Lawn outside Woodburn Hall
Why: To demand that companies profitting from IU licenses reveal the
wages their workers receive

Here's an article in the IDS today about it. - No Sweat! to March Today

On March 11, 2004, No Sweat! will initiate its "Open the Books!" campaign with a march and protest in conjunction with USAS members at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Michigan. The group will march through campus, starting at Woodburn Meadow at 3:15 EST, to Dunn Meadow where a large symbolic account ledger will be smashed open by student activists.

The student coalition demands that all apparel manufacturers licensed to print university logos open their ledgers and those of their supplier factories to disclose what they pay their workers. Wage disclosure is a small but significant step in the fight against wage-related abuses around the world, especially the minimum wage violations that are standard practice at apparel industry sweatshops across the globe-from El Salvador, Mexico and the United States to China, Indonesia, and Bangladesh.

FMLA and fellow feminists,

Welcome back to school, I hope you all had a great first day of classes. We will be having our meeting on Tuesday in the Sassafras Room of the tree suites in the IMU, at 7:30pm as usually. We will be showing a video sent to us by FMLA headquarters about the March in Washington D.C., which is coming up in April. We will also be finishing the hanger project for the Roe V Wade reunion, which will be put up next week. If you have any metal hangers you can bring them, but we have lots of them already. Get excited, this semester is full of fun events and projects. See you all tomorrow!
