Undergraduate Studies in Ethnomusicology

As the study of music in culture, ethnomusicology is a special concentration within the Folklore and Ethnomusicology Department. Students may pursue an undergraduate concentration in ethnomusicology by enrolling in the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology major or minor. Potential ethnomusicology students considering coming to or already enrolled at Indiana University are encouraged to contact the Undergraduate Advisor for information and advising.

Advising and Suggested Courses

Students are encouraged to meet with the director of the Ethnomusicology Program and/or the Undergraduate Advisor to discuss advanced courses in fieldwork, specific world areas, and research methods and theories.

The program offers opportunities for student-faculty research partnerships, internships, and independent study.
