- Ethnomusicology PhD Candidate Anthony Guest-Scott accepted a full-time position as Academic Coordinator for the Student Academic Center on the Indiana University Bloomington campus.
Publications
- Ethnomusicology PhD Candidate Langston Colin Wilkins was featured in the Houston Chronicle in an article about SLABs, the car culture that he studied in Houston for his dissertation. Read the article here.
- A number of students from the department had articles featured in the recently publish book, Celebrating Latino Folklore: An Encyclopedia of Cultural Traditions. It also includes an article from our own John McDowell. Students are Julian Antonio Carrillo, Tricia Tessa Ferdinand, Rachel Valentina Gonzalez, Eric Cesar Morales, and Juan Sebastian Rojas.

- Folklore PhD Candidate Monica Foote received a 2012-13 College of Arts & Sciences Travel Award.
- Ethnomusicology PhD Candidate Hsin-Wen Hsu received a 2012-13 College of Arts & Sciences Travel Award.
- Dual Folklore and Communication & Culture PhD student Matthew Hale won the Bill Ellis Prize at the 2012 American Folklore Society Annual Meeting.
Awards and Distinctions
- Folklore PhD student Suzanne Barber won the 2012 Jonathan T.Y. Yeh Award for Student Scholarship in Asian and Asian American Folklore at the 2012 American Folklore Society Annual Meeting.

- Ethnomusicology MA Anna Mulé was hired as the Director of Digital and Social Media in the Office of Communications and Marketing at Wagner College on Staten Island, NY. She also freelances through "Mulé Media" - most projects combine multimedia production, folklore, and teaching.
