The purpose of the Student Service Award is to acknowledge individuals who have gone the extra mile to be of service to the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology.

With this award, we honor these individuals for their work and dedication. We express our gratitude to them for helping us to define the kind of community to which we want to belong and for teaching us, in word and deed, what kind of community members we wish to be. We hold these individuals up as a standard to which we aspire.

We define 'service' to include

  • Service positions undertaken within or on behalf of the department
  • Varieties of support given to fellow students, faculty, and department
  • Any activity, behavior, or effort that provides a commendable example of community involvement

  • Please contact an FSA, ESA, or Folkpub leader to enter a nomination.
  • We ask that the nomination be written, sent via email or hand-delivered, and include both the name of the nominee and a short description of why you are nominating this individual, i.e. what kinds of service this individual renders.
  • The nominations process will be kept confidential.

All students are encouraged to participate in the Student Service Award. You need not be a member of any student organization to do so.

Nominations from each association are due by Monday March 31, 2008.

The Student Service Award is organized by Folklore and Ethnomusicology Publications Inc., in conjunction with the Folklore Student Association and the Ethnomusicology Student Association of Indiana University-Bloomington.
