Two conferences are to be hosted by department Women Seeking Expression: France 1789-1914
Professors Rosemary Lloyd and Margaret "Margot" Gray are organizing an interdisciplinary conference Women Seeking Expression: La Femme à la recherche de l'expression: France 1789-1914 on Sept. 23-26. Participants will present readings concerning women who have sought expression through music, the visual arts, and writing, including such forms as children's literature, pedagogy, history, pornography, biography, and letters. The conference will be accompanied by an exhibition at the Lilly Rare Books and Manuscripts Library, a tour of the art gallery, and two concerts featuring French women composers. American Conference on Romanticism With the assistance of professors Fritz Beithaupt, Andrea Ciccarelli, Mary Favret, Jane Fulcher, Ken Johnston, William Rasch, Henry Remak, and Nick Williams, John Isbell will be hosting the American Conference on Romanticism, focusing on the theme of "Pleasure," on Nov. 11-14. Presenters will focus on pleasures of the aesthetic, intellectual, economic, and political varieties.
