Mail Forwarding Policy

The Department of French and Italian strongly urges all faculty and graduate students who will be away from campus for an extended period of time to fill out a "change of address" form at the local post office. Graduate Students should also fill out such a form for the IU Registrar’s Office. The Department should, of course, also be notified of the address change. Indeed, all organizations and individuals who correspond with the faculty member or graduate student should be notified of the address change. Generally, the issue of mail forwarding by another member of the Department can be avoided if the above steps are taken.

If mail forwarding by the Department seems necessary, please keep in mind that the FRIT staff are unqualified to make judgements regarding the importance of mail received in the department office for faculty and graduate students. They are therefore not the best individuals to carry out the forwarding of mail. We recommend instead that faculty and graduate students who will be away from campus for an extended period select an individual whom they trust to look through the mail that arrives for them in the department office and to take charge of forwarding important mail to the correct address. When you do this, please inform the staff who you have designated for this task so that they will allow this person to access your mail. If such an arrangement is not possible, the FRIT staff will forward mail according to the policy below.

The FRIT staff will forward mail as a service to faculty and graduate students according to the following guidelines:

Free forwarding
Forwarding for payment
Payment of mail forwarding
Duration of mail forwarding service
