Domestic Applicants in Italian
Dear Prospective Student:
Thank you for your interest in our Italian graduate programs at Indiana University. Here you will find listed all of the necessary materials to apply to one of our programs. Note that no separate application is required to be considered for the financial assistance of an Associate Instructorship (AI position) or other department fellowship opportunities.
You may now apply online to the desired program by clicking this link: http://www.gradapp.indiana.edu. Select: "Apply Now ", create an account, and then follow the instructions. Please fill in all applicable fields, including the "Departmental Questions" where you will indicate if you want to be considered for an IU fellowship or assistantship and your area of interest for graduate studies.
The application deadline for domestic applicants who would like to enter the program in January is the previous September 1. For entry into the program in August, the deadline is the previous January 15. Please note that AI positions are generally not offered to new students who begin their studies in the spring semester. Such students are welcome submit their interest in an AI position for the following fall semester.
In order to evaluate your dossier, the Graduate Admissions Committee requests that you:
- Complete the Online Application
- Write the 300-500 word statement of purpose. Please submit two versions of the same content, one in Italian and one in English. It may contain such information as your current goals, plans for your professional career, and reasons for selecting the field of study.
- Submit one official transcript from each institute of higher education attended.
- Take the Graduate Record Examination and have the scores sent to us directly by the testing service. While the Graduate School normally requires at least one GRE score above 600, exceptions can be made in cases of particular merit.
- Three letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your ability to do scholarly work. If you are not currently in school, a letter from a non-academic employer may be included as one of the three letters, but prospective students should be aware that such letters are usually less valuable to the Admissions Committee.
- Provide a brief summary of any study or experience abroad.
- Submit a curriculum vitae or current resumé.
